Twin Cities Daily Planet

We'd like to welcome new client Twin Cities Daily Planet.  We have taken over the hosting contract for the Daily Planet, and will be making improvements to the site over the next several month, particularly in social media integration.  We are also moving them into a higher performance hosting environment using a Varnish front-end cache, and a high-performance back end. Go visit to get the latest news in the Twin Cities from a nonprofit source.

New Drupal Releases

New releases of Drupal 6 and 7 were rolled out yesterday.  We're currently developing an upgrade plan for our customers.  This will be a staged release, and will roll out roughly in the following order:

1.  Drupal 7 production sites

2.  Drupal 6 production sites

3.  Drupal 6 sites using Pressflow Drupal.

The Pressflow sites will have to wait for an upgrade version of Pressflow to be released.  We expect that's likely to happen next week.

Jared Spool at Drupalcon

I thought this was a very entertaining and informative talk at Drupalcon about human factors and design.  So I thought I'd share it with you.  He has been kind enough to put up a page about the talk, which includes the PDF of the slides he presented. But this is the video:

Drupalcon 2011

The Cruiskeen Consulting staff will be in Chicago for the next week to go to Civicon (a conference about using CiviCRM) and Drupalcon.  So our responses to queries, etc. will be a little bit slower than normal.  If you're going to Drupalcon, we'll see you there.

I'm attending DrupalCon Chicago, March 7-10, 2011

New Drupal, new look

We converted the site over to Drupal 7 today.  This is a temporary look for the site until we develop a new Drupal 7 theme for it.  SO - enjoy the new Drupal goodness.  I expect we broke a few nits in the process, so please be patient.  But we'll have lots more new functionality in the next few months.

Drupal 7 Released

It's been a long, long wait, but Drupal 7 was released this morning.  Let's not all upgrade those sites at once, though.  This site will be updated to Drupal 7 real soon now as a first go at it.

Drupal 7 First Look - Book Review

Book ReviewDrupal 7 First Look

Drupal 7 First Look by Mark Noble

Packt Publishing, November 2010

ISBN 978-1-849511-22-3

Drupal 7 is due for release on Jan 5, 2011, so this is a particularly timely book release. Now that Drupal 7 has stabilized, developers are seriously starting to work with version 7, to build sites with it, and to port their modules and themes to run in Drupal 7.  A lot has changed in 7, and it has been more than a little difficult to find good documentation in a single place for what a developer will face in making the transition.  Drupal 7 First Look is a great guide for the Drupal user facing upgrades to Drupal 7 and the issues they might encounter.

Big Pile of Drupal Updates

The Drupal Security Team has apparently been working overtime as a slug of new Drupal updates appeared last night.  This includes two (count 'em, two) different new versions of Drupal, and many module updates, all intended to fix security issues.  Drupal 6.18 is a security-only update which fixes security holes and nothing more.

Bobfest Northfest

I've done a quick development job for Bobfest Northfest. This is sort of a dry run for a 2011 event, Fighting Bob Fest North.  Fighting Bob Fest is a progressive festival that happens every year in Baraboo, Wisconsin, commemorating Fighting Bob LaFollette.
