Domain Prices Going Up!

Just a quick note --- all domain prices are going up on January 14.  This will generally be the case with all domain registrars, since it's caused by an increase in ICANN fees.  So --buy those domains now!

To help encourage you further, all domains are on sale for 10% off through Jan 14.  Just enter the promotion code domainsale when you fill in the order, and the 10% will be deducted automatically.

Twin Cities Daily Planet

We'd like to welcome new client Twin Cities Daily Planet.  We have taken over the hosting contract for the Daily Planet, and will be making improvements to the site over the next several month, particularly in social media integration.  We are also moving them into a higher performance hosting environment using a Varnish front-end cache, and a high-performance back end. Go visit to get the latest news in the Twin Cities from a nonprofit source.

Google+

The hot topic of the week appears to be Google+.  After a period of very limited availability, Google seems to have opened up at least a little over the weekend, giving me a chance to finally use the invitation that I've had for a while.  So now I'm in.

NOI announces results of email tests

The New Organizing Institute today has a useful article about conducting email tests, what their results were, and how you can do your own.

Jared Spool at Drupalcon

I thought this was a very entertaining and informative talk at Drupalcon about human factors and design.  So I thought I'd share it with you.  He has been kind enough to put up a page about the talk, which includes the PDF of the slides he presented. But this is the video:

CiviCON

I'm spending today at CiviCON, a conference for CiviCRM users.  If you're not familiar with CiviCRM, it is a CRM database intended primarily for nonprofit groups.  We use it ourselves on a few of our web properties, and we support several hosting clients using CiviCRM.

The software packages is currently in a great period of change, with many improvements recently done and in the works.  This is an exciting chance to talk to other people who are working with CiviCRM, and to learn new things about the package.

Drupalcon 2011

The Cruiskeen Consulting staff will be in Chicago for the next week to go to Civicon (a conference about using CiviCRM) and Drupalcon.  So our responses to queries, etc. will be a little bit slower than normal.  If you're going to Drupalcon, we'll see you there.

I'm attending DrupalCon Chicago, March 7-10, 2011

New Drupal, new look

We converted the site over to Drupal 7 today.  This is a temporary look for the site until we develop a new Drupal 7 theme for it.  SO - enjoy the new Drupal goodness.  I expect we broke a few nits in the process, so please be patient.  But we'll have lots more new functionality in the next few months.

Drupal 7 Released

It's been a long, long wait, but Drupal 7 was released this morning.  Let's not all upgrade those sites at once, though.  This site will be updated to Drupal 7 real soon now as a first go at it.

Drupal 7 First Look - Book Review

Book ReviewDrupal 7 First Look

Drupal 7 First Look by Mark Noble

Packt Publishing, November 2010

ISBN 978-1-849511-22-3

Drupal 7 is due for release on Jan 5, 2011, so this is a particularly timely book release. Now that Drupal 7 has stabilized, developers are seriously starting to work with version 7, to build sites with it, and to port their modules and themes to run in Drupal 7.  A lot has changed in 7, and it has been more than a little difficult to find good documentation in a single place for what a developer will face in making the transition.  Drupal 7 First Look is a great guide for the Drupal user facing upgrades to Drupal 7 and the issues they might encounter.
