First NetSquared Twin Cities Meeting
NetsquaredLast night I attended the first NetSquared Twin Cities meeting. A fine time was had by all, and a lot of us who are working for or with nonprofits in Minnesota (in tech capacities) got to meet each other and talk about what we're doing. I'd like to thank both the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits for hosting it, and all of the organizers, particularly Jennifer Sly for getting the whole meetup going in the first place..
Spam - You're 30 years old, and you still look Mahvelous!
Spam is 30 years old this month. And still a growing boy. Growing like crazy from looking at our spam filter logs this month. Who would have thought back in that simpler time (and yes, I'm old enough to remember the incident and the outrage it provoked) that one day spam would be pa multi-million dollar business, and would be powered by millions of home PC's that are controlled by spam masters around the Internet.
Omeka
Every so often we stumble across a piece of Open Source software that is really exciting. Omeka is one of those items. It is designed as an Open Source package to allow museums to build interactive web sites and internal displays with a minimum of trouble. It's already being used by quite a few different museums, and looks very promising. It's available for free download, and we're starting to play around with it here. We may offer this as another hosted option, along with Drupal.

Google For Nonprofits
Google has recently launched a portal for nonprofits called Google for Nonprofits. It explains the use of Google tools for nonprofit groups, and is a good resource for people who are bewildered by the large array of web services that Google now offers. It also includes information on Google Grants and other special services that Google offers to nonprofit groups.
BarCamp Chippewa
We're interested in the possibility of holding a BarCamp event in the Chippewa Valley. Currently we are looking for people in Western Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota who would be interested in participating/sponsoring/organizing. If you fall into that category, please get in touch, or read the article at

Drupalcon
I'm here in Boston at Drupalcon 2008. So far it has been a great session, getting to talk to other Drupal developers from around the world. The first day's sessions are over and I'm now looking toward an evening talking about Newspapers and NonProfits on Drupal. I'll be putting up some highlights later tonight.
